Upcoming Algood Happenings

First ever Litter Coalition Meeting at the Saltbox Inn on Wednesday, September 23 at 10:30. Law enforcement and community members along with the Clean Commission and Power of Putnam will meet and discuss litter laws and how to be more proactive regarding litter. Also, expect to hear from Memphis Judge Larry Potter. Judge Potter helped administratively create the Memphis Environmental Court. CNN described him as a “national role model.”
Wednesday, September 23 at 5:30 to 8pm Flame will be performing at Trinity. Pennock Ave and 5th Avenue will experience heavy congestion and may be closed after 7:30. Flame is a Christian rock band and this is a free concert sponsored by Trinity Assembly of Algood. On February 20, 2007, it was announced that Flame’s track, “Gotta Notice”, from the album Rewind was nominated for the 38th Annual GMA Dove Awards in the category Rap/Hip Hop Recorded Song of the Year. Saturday, September 26th 10-2 Algood Police Department is participating in the National Drug Take Back event. Please bring any unwanted or expired medications to Algood City Hall. There will be giveaway items from Blue House Primitives and Junk in the Trunk. Also, bring the kiddos to take a selfie with Ollie Otter.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month! The Domestic Violence Awareness color is purple and National Domestic Violence Month is recognized in October. When you wear our Domestic Violence lapel pin, you help raise awareness and support.

The first annual Tarp Day Event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all Putnam County Convenience Centers.  The Putnam County Solid Waste Department has partnered with Keep Putnam County Beautiful Clean Commission to teach residents about Tennessee Litter Laws that the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department will soon be enforcing.  The Clean Commission and Solid Waste Department will be distributing tarps to the first 100 trucks that bring solid waste to the Convenience Centers without a tarp.  Drivers will also be given a copy of the Tennessee litter laws so they can become familiar with the penalties for continued littering.

Saturday, October 17 Haunted Half Marathon– Runners will be in the Algood area from approx. 7:40 – 9:15 am, and we expect 350 runners/walkers (mostly runners!). Motorists please pay attention to runners and volunteers around this time.
