Police Investigating Murder Suicide in Monterey

PUTNAM COUNTY, TN – At approximately 1:45 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a call was received about a shooting on E. Williams Street in Monterey.  Officers responding to the call found a male and female deceased from gunshot wounds inside the home.

Their names are Daniel Paul Harville and Angela Dell Harville, husband and wife. Based on the initial investigation, it appears that the husband shot his wife and then shot himself. According to police records, there is a history of domestic violence at the residence.

“We are deeply saddened to see such a tragic incident happen in the nice town of Monterey,” said Sheriff Eddie Farris. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

A joint investigation is underway between the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Monterey Police Department.

The investigation is being led by Major Terry Hembree and Sheriff Farris at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and by Chief Bill Randolph and Detective Mike Phillips on behalf of Monterey PD.

“This is a tragedy for our small community,” said Chief Bill Randolph, Monterey Police Department. “I truly appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support in our community for the family.  I also want to thank the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance. I have been an investigator for many years, and I was impressed by the cooperation between our two departments and how smoothly they worked together while processing the crime scene. It made a difficult job a little bit easier on all of us.”
