‘Healthier Cookeville’ Volksmarch planned at Cane Creek Park

COOKEVILLE — Join the Cookeville City Council at Cane Creek Park on Sunday, April 17 at 2 p.m. for their first Cane Creek Volksmarch.

The community is invited to Cane Creek Park for a walk as Cookeville works to become a Healthier Tennessee Community.

A Volsmarch, a German term for “people’s march,” is a non-competitive 10K (6.2 mile) walk typically done in groups. Saturday’s Volksmarch will follow the lower trail around the lake at Cane Creek Park, leaving from the Cane Creek Recreation Center parking area.

One loop around the trail is 1.8 miles. Participants may walk as many loops as they would like, and youth who complete two laps will receive a medal for their participation.

Councilman Charles Womack suggested the idea of a Volksmarch designed to encourage families and individuals to take advantage of our parks and enjoy physical activity as part of the Healthier Tennessee Community initiative.

Water stations will be available and Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton will lead the first lap around the lake.

This is the first in a series of free walks to take place between now and fall, allowing the community an opportunity to be a part of Healthier Cookeville.
