Ireland’s Brock McGuire Band to perform at Vol State Livingston on

April 14

Brock McGuire Band, an internationally celebrated traditional Irish band, is bringing Irish music to Volunteer State Community College at Livingston during a performance on Thursday, April 14, starting at 1:30 p.m. The college is located at 113 Windle Community Road.  The event is free and open to the public.

The Brock McGuire Band, named the “Instrumental Band of the Decade” by Irish American News, is fronted by button accordionist and melodeonist Paul Brock and fiddler Manus McGuire. Brock and McGuire, natives of County Clare, are two of Ireland’s most acclaimed traditional musicians and have been at the forefront of Irish music for years. They are joined by musicians Denis Carey, an outstanding pianist, composer, and arranger and Garry O’Meara, a renowned banjo and mandolin player and vocalist.

Brock McGuire Band performs Irish traditional, American old timey, bluegrass, French-Canadian and other Celtic traditions.  The band has performed worldwide and has released several CDs, including Green Grass Blue Grass, a collaboration with Grammy Award winning bluegrass musician Ricky Skaggs and other American country and bluegrass musicians.

The performance is presented by Vol State’s International Education Program, which provides students with a global perspective through classroom learning, international events, speakers, and travel-study.
