Vol State Livingston Plans 911 Memorial Ceremony

Volunteer State Community College at Livingston will hold a 911 memorial ceremony on September 8, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the campus located at 113 Windle Community Road.  The event is open to everyone.

The ceremony will include live music, remembrances, and a special tribute to first responders and military.

“We invite the community to please join us as we remember that terrible day of 911 and those who lost their lives, honor those who survived, and celebrate our heroic first responders,” said Michael Powell, director of Vol State at Livingston.  “This is the 15th year anniversary of 911 and it is extremely important that we always continue showing our deepest respect and eternal gratitude to all of those brave men and women who protect us and assist us daily in our times of greatest need.”

Nearly 3,000 people were killed when terrorists crashed two planes into the World Trade Center Twin Towers in New York City on September 11, 2001.  A third plane hit the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and a forth plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.  More than 400 police officers and firefighters were among the dead.
