Cookeville Leisure Services and UCAR partner for holiday home challenge

COOKEVILLE – Will your home be “merry and bright” this holiday season?

Cookeville Leisure Services is partnering with the Upper Cumberland Association of REALTORS to present the “Merry and Bright Holiday Home Challenge,” an exterior home decorating contest that is open to Putnam County residents within a 10-mile radius of the Cookeville Courthouse Square.

“Whether you are a Clark Griswold or prefer a more classic look for the holidays, we want to see your house,” Libby Capps of American Way Real Estate, one of the contest organizers, said.

UCAR will be awarding $300 in prize money to the winners – $100 each in the categories of Most Elegant, Most Creative and Most Colorful.

“We hope residents will be excited to enter this contest and be creative with new methods and designs for our community to enjoy,” Mildred Garrett, Cookeville Leisure Services programmer, said.

Competitors must register by Dec. 6. Forms are available in the Leisure Services office at Cookeville City Hall, 45 E. Broad St., and UCAR office, 1330 B Neal St. Registration may also be completed at www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls or by calling 931-520-4386 or 931-526-7393. The entry fee is $10. (Make checks payable to Cookeville Leisure Services.)

Participants’ addresses will be included on a publicized Christmas tour of lights.

It’s the first time in more than two decades that Cookeville Leisure Services and UCAR have teamed up for the contest.

“In keeping with the 175th anniversary of Putnam County and the Christmas parade theme of ‘Remember When,’ we are bringing back the exterior home decorating contest, which was sponsored by the REALTORS for many years,” Capps said. “We encourage everyone to enter and then get out and see the decorations with family and friends.”

Signs will be placed at the homes of the three winners.

For more information about the contest, call Leisure Services at 931-520-4386 or UCAR at 931-528-4093.
