Daniel 1 Academy Lions Win 2 Out of 3

Daniel 1 Academy Lions hosted Hendersonville Royals on 2/1/18 at Cane Creek Rec Center in Cookeville. Three close games resulted in 2 wins for D1A.
In the Middle School game, D1A won 26-18. D1A was in the lead to start the 4th quarter 18-10. The Royals pulled to within 3 with 3:13 on two free throws. After a 3 pointer by D1A, with 1:06 remaining, The Royals answered with a 3 pointer to make it 22-18 with 37 seconds remaining. D1A scored the last 4 points to win 26-18. The D1A BMS team is now 14-9 on the season.
The second game was a close contest for the D1A JV team but lost 46-48. Scoring by quarters:

Grady Giffey hit a buzzer beating 3 before the end of the 2nd quarter to put D1A up 19-12 at the half. It was back and forth all fourth quarter.
The last game of the evening was a overtime thriller with D1A coming out on top 78-73. The Royals had a chance to win it in regulation but missed a layup before time expired and D1A got the rebound to force OT. In the OT, the Lions outscored the Royals 18-13 to seal the win. Scoring by quarters:

Scoring for D1A: Garret Woodside 34 (7 assists, 8-9 free throws), Carson Vaughn 26 (7 reb, 7 assists), Madden Smith 6 (7 reb), Blake Smith 5 (6 assists, 4 steals), Joey Smith 3, Josiah Watson 2, Luke Welte 2.
D1A shot 52% from the field and 80% (12 out of 15) from the free throw line. D1A BHS is now 14-8 on the season.
Next game for all three teams is tomorrow night – Friday, Feb. 2 at Franklin Christian Academy in Franklin. The Middle School game starts at 4 PM with the JV and High School game to follow.
