PSMS is getting an Arboretum!

Prescott South Middle School has an exciting new project. They are converting the school’s Campus into and Arboretum. An Arboretum is a botanical garden devoted to the study and preservation of trees. When it is complete the students will have an extensive outdoor classroom
where native plants and habitats can be observed and studied.

There are several native trees on the campus, and like many places, they are being choked out by invasive plants like honeysuckle and privet. The students, with help from Hix Brother’s Tractor and The Cookeville Home and Garden Club, are clearing the invasive plants so native trees growing on campus can flourish. They are also busy planting new trees and shrubs to complement the native plants. This is an ongoing project, but the students hope to get a big head
start by hosting a Weed Wrangle® Saturday, March 3rd. Weed Wrangle®

Weed Wrangle® began in 2015 as a public-private collaboration dedicated to
consolidating community invasive plant control efforts.  The Garden Club of Nashville, The Friends of Warner Parks and IPC, Inc worked together to develop a citywide project focused on invasive plant removal, collaboration, and education. Since 2015, Weed Wrangle® has spread to communities around the United States. Projects in different areas take different forms.
