COOKEVILLE, T.N., — Deputies arrested a man for threatening several people at a home in Putnam County.

Deputies responded to a residence on Birch Circle Road on April 3rd in reference to a aggravated assault call.  According to reports, a man claimed he was assaulted by 28-year-old Daniel Barton.

Allegedly, when the caller arrived at the Birch Circle residence, Barton came out to the driveway and stood over the caller with a baton. Then the caller claimed that Barton told him to wait so he could retrieve a shotgun to “blow his brains out.” Allegedly, the caller was able to get in his car and drive away to make the emergency phone call that summoned the deputy.

According to the report, the deputy drove to the residence where he spoke to Barton and his wife. The wife claimed that she and Barton were arguing about their vehicle when Barton allegedly slammed her into the wall. The report went on to say that Barton then held his forearm to his wife’s throat, grabbed her by the hair and slammed her head against the wall several times. Next, he dragged his wife to the floor and repeatedly slammed her head against the ground before grabbing an eight inch kitchen knife and threatening to kill her, according to the report.

Barton was taken to the Putnam County Justice Center where he has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and his bond was set at $12,500.
