“Kidville” Exhibit Opens Saturday, May 26, 2018

‘Kidville’ exhibit offers hands-on look at local government

COOKEVILLE – Local children have an opportunity to learn more about their city in “Kidville,” a new exhibit at the Cookeville History Museum.

The opening reception is Saturday from 1-3 p.m. Admission is free.

“‘Kidville’ is a hands-on look at some of the things the City of Cookeville provides for the community,” Pam Philpot, exhibit specialist, said. “By learning about how a city works, each child can become a good citizen and help contribute positively to the community.

Participants will be able to design a city flag, volunteer at the “animal shelter,” pay their utility bill at “city hall,” dress as a firefighter, police officer or office worker, and learn more about how a city government works.

It will be the history museum’s first bilingual exhibit.

“All of the informative panels will be in both English and Spanish,” Beth Thompson, Cookeville museums manager, said. “We love the idea of connecting with more members of our community, and we feel this feature will give all of the children another opportunity for learning.”

“Kidville” continues through July 28.

“We love our summer kids’ exhibits,” Thompson said. “We hope to offer area families a free, fun activity for when those summer days seem to stretch out a bit too long.”

The Cookeville History Museum, located at 40 E. Broad St., is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, call 520-5455.
