TENNESSEE STATE PARKS CONSERVANCY AWARDS SCHOOL FIELD TRIP GRANTS
NASHVILLE – Nearly 900 students from ten Tennessee schools will get the chance to visit and learn at a Tennessee State Park, thanks to a round of field trip grants recently awarded by the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy.
“We received close to 50 applications from schools all across the state, which tells us that there is a high demand for immersive educational experiences in our state parks,” said Cara Ince, executive director of the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy. “We’re grateful to the grantors that made these trips possible, and hope more donors see this opportunity to get kids outdoors and learning about our state.”
Students across seven counties will benefit from the ‘School of the Great Outdoors Field Trip Fund’ including: Caryville Elementary School, Centennial Elementary School, East Hickman Intermediate School, Jacksboro Elementary School, Jellico Elementary School, Lawrenceburg Public Elementary School, Livingston Middle School, Robert Churchwell Museum Magnet Elementary School, Woodland-Woodbury Grammar School and Wynn Habersham Elementary School.
Students will visit the following Tennessee State Parks this spring and next fall: Bicentennial Capitol Mall, Cove Lake, Norris Dam, Henry Horton, Old Stone Fort, Dunbar Cave, David Crockett, Johnsonville and Standing Stone. Field trip activities will focus on ecology, environmental stewardship, wildlife, outdoor skills and more.
Funding was made possible by the Campbell Enhancement Fund at the East Tennessee Foundation, the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Village Fund at Village Real Estate Services. The next round of field trip grants is tentatively scheduled for January 2019.
