Mr. Basketball Winners Announced

CLASS AAA: Winner Dedric Lawson

MURFREESBORO- – -The winner of the Class AAA Mr. Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.

Dedric Lawson from Hamilton High School was named Mr. Basketball in Class AAA for 2015.  The other two finalists were Donte Dorsey from Southwind High School and K.J. Lawson, Dedric’s brother, from Hamilton High School.

Lawson is a 6’9”, senior, power forward for the Wildcats.  He is a four year starter who averages 20 points, 15 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.  He shoots 76% from the field, 36% from three-point range, and 84% from the free throw line.  He was a 2014 McDonald’s All-American selection and was a Second Team All-American pick in 2013.  Dedric has been named to the All-District and All-Region tournament teams.  He has scored over 1,700 points and has over 1,100 rebounds in his career at Hamilton.

CLASS AA: Winner Braxton Blackwell

MURFREESBORO- – -The winner of the Class AA Mr. Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.
Braxton Blackwell from Christ Presbyterian Academy was named Mr. Basketball in Class AA for 2015.  This is the second consecutive year that Blackwell has been the winner of the Class AA Mr. Basketball Award.  The other two finalists were Chris McNeal from Jackson South Side High School and LeGerald Vick from Douglass High School.

Blackwell is a 6’8” junior, forward.  He is a three year starter for the Lions who averages 21.7 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and three steals per game.  He shoots 56.1% from the field and 62.4% from the free throw line.  He has twice been named to the All-District, All-District Tournament, All-Region, and All-State teams.  He is a two-time Region MVP and was named the Player of the Year by the Tennessean.

CLASS A: Winner Jeremiah Martin

MURFREESBORO- – -The winner of the Class A Mr. Basketball Award was announced at the conclusion of the championship game today at Murphy Center.

Jeremiah Martin from Mitchell High School was named Mr. Basketball in Class A for 2015.  The other two finalists were Tucker Campbell from Adamsville High School and Marcus Deberry of Union City High School.

Martin is a 6’3”, senior guard.  He is a three year starter for the Tigers who averages 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game.  He shoots 43% from  the field, 37% from three-point range, and 78% from the free throw line.  He has been named to the All-State team twice and is a three-time Commercial Appeal “Best of the Preps” selection.  He has also been named to the All-District team four consecutive years.  Jeremiah has scored over 1000
