Police Find Potentially Deadly Counterfeit Pills During Drug Bust

COOKEVILLE, T.N. — Police say they seized hundreds of counterfeit pills that pose a potentially deadly risk to users.

Investigator say they served a search warrant at a home on Massa Road Friday morning.  During the search of the home, detectives allegedly found 300 pills stamped with markings that are characteristic of Percocet.  However, after testing the pills, police determined they contained Fentanyl, a pain killer 50 times as potent as heroin.

“I am proud of the efforts of our Narcotics Unit and the high level of cooperation displayed with our law enforcement partners,” said Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris. “This investigation demonstrates the dangers present in our community as it relates to drugs. Our citizens can be assured that as long as I am Sheriff we will continue to be relentless in our pursuit of anyone using or selling narcotics in Putnam County.”

Police want to enforce that people should only use prescription medications obtained through a licensed pharmacy and avoid purchasing prescription medications online or through illicit channels.

Police have not released the names of the suspects at this time.
