Find historical markers Aug. 11 on History Hunt Car Tour
COOKEVILLE – You’ve seen them around town – large gray plaques noting the historical significance of various people and places.
One of those plaques, which stands near Cookeville City Hall, honors Major Richard Fielding Cooke, state senator from 1851-55, after whom the city was named.
Plenty more are out there – and the goal of the Cookeville History Museum’s Aug. 11 History Hike is to find them.
“We want you to hunt down the location of some historical markers,” Ashley McKee, Cookeville museums education specialist, said.
Normally, History Hikes can be completed on foot between the Cookeville History Museum and Cookeville Depot Museum on Broad Street. But this month’s challenge is different.
“We’re calling it a History Hunt Car Tour,” McKee said. “You can enjoy the A/C or the wind through your hair for this activity. Take a cruise around our awesome county.”
Stop by the Cookeville History Museum, 40 E. Broad St., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for refreshments and a map. Return completed maps by 3:30 p.m. to be entered in a prize drawing sponsored by Char Steak Lounge. Participation is free.
The Cookeville History Museum is part of the historical arts division of the City of Cookeville Leisure Services Department.
