Three CHS Athletes Compete At East Tennessee State Indoor Track Meet

A trio of Cookeville High School athletes competed in Johnson City, TN, on Jan. 15, 16, at the KYA High School Invitational Track and Field Meet at East Tennessee State University.

This track meet is one of two qualifying meets for the Tennessee State Indoor Track and Field meet to be held on February 27 back at East Tennessee State University.  Athletes from many states competed in this quality track meet.  Conner Hawkins won the mile race in 4:31.63.

There were 64 competitors in that race.  Nathan Longfellow placed 2nd in the two mile race with a time of 9:40.75, which was a personal best for him whether indoors or outdoors. There were 27 competitors in that race.

Logan Lamb placed 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 41’1″, tied for 2nd place in the high jump with a personal best of 5’10”, and placed 4 in the 60 meter high hurdles with a personal best of 8.53 seconds.  His hurdles time was only 9/100ths of a second off the qualifying standard for the New Balance National Indoor Track and Field Meet in New York.  He will have two more chances to try to qualify for that meet.

Indoor Track 2

All three competitors competed unattached due to TSSAA rules which do not allow them to represent their high school at this time; also, all three athletes qualified for the Tennessee State Indoor Meet in all their events in which they competed in at Johnson City.
