Randy Porter -Update on the Maintenance of Putnam County Courthouse

The Putnam County Courthouse is currently in the process of some much needed repairs, maintenance and new paint. The building is 118 years old and the historical center of our County. My goal is to always keep it looking as nice as possible.

The repairs include the large white columns at each entrance which are over 55 years old, including all of the trim and woodwork on the outside of the building. An epoxy sealer is being applied to weatherproof all of the woodwork which has a blue tint to it, but don’t pay any attention to the color, as coats of white paint will be applied in the end. This work should take about two weeks if the weather cooperates. The windows were replaced in 2017 and the inside of the building was renovated in 2015 with new flooring, paint, etc. The final parts of the project will be replacing the roof along the heating and cooling system which will occur in the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. This should have the historical building in great shape for several years to come.

The Courthouse Square plays a key part in in our economic development and tourism. Most businesses looking to locate in our County visit the Courthouse and downtown area to see how well it is maintained. This is a key selling point for our community and we want it to stay looking great.
