CHS Takes 3rd At Tennessee State Indoor Track And Field Championships

Cookeville High School boys’ indoor track and field contingent of Nathan Longfellow, Conner Hawkins, Logan Lamb, and Caleb Aikens astonished the Tennessee indoor track and field world by capturing a third place finish at the Tennessee State Indoor Track and Field Meet in Johnson City on Saturday, February 27, with only 4 athletes competing.

Logan Lamb led the team with a first place finish in the 60HH with a personal best of 8.25 seconds.  He also place second in the high jump with a personal best of 5’10.5” and second place in the triple jump with a leap of 40’10.25”.  Lamb will be competing on March 11, in the 60HH in the Emerging Elite division at the New Balance National Indoor Track and Field Meet in New York City.  His winning time at the indoor state meet ties him with two other athletes in the nation for the best qualifying time in that event.

In the two mile race, Nathan Longfellow placed second with a strong finish in an excellent time of 9:42.10 minutes.  Nathan has also qualified and will be competing in a brutal double at the New Balance Indoor Nationals.  Longfellow will be competing in the Emerging Elite division in the two mile and the 5,000 meters, a total of over five miles against some of the top distance runners in the nation.  Longfellow has committed to running for East Tennessee State University next fall after graduation.

Running for Cookeville High School, as well, in the two mile race was Caleb Aikens.  Aikens ran a good time of 10:05.80 minutes for eighth place and just missed earning a medal.  The top six finishers in every event received a medal and a certificate.

Cookeville’s star miler, Conner Hawkins, contributed to the team’s remarkable performance by placing third in the mile run with a personal best of 4:22.67.  Conner will make it a trio of CHS track athletes qualifying for the New Balance Indoor Nationals to be held in New York in mid March.  \

Starting the season with three athletes making school history qualifying for the New Balance Indoor Nationals, the Cookeville High School coaching staff is extremely excited about the upcoming outdoor season which begins with a home meet on March 15 against Warren County and Goodpasture.
