BES Field Trip to Floating Mills

Baxter Elementary went on a field trip in May to Floating Mills Recreational Facility.
The students enjoyed visits from park rangers, Mr. Chris Cantrell and Ms. Sarah Peace.  They talked about boat safety and demonstrated the effects of alcohol with the impaired goggles the students got to try on.
Staff Sargent Birdwell and Specialist Kristen Cupdo of the National Guard came and talked about the different military fields and the jobs and services that can be attained from going in the different branches.
Mr. Carl Halfacre and Mrs. Suzanne Halfacre came and did the historical reenactment of “The Grave Digger”. Students got to listen to the story of how local men moved cemeteries during the construction of Center Hill Dam.
Students also got to demonstrate their archery skills with Mr. Wes Stevens and Mrs. Chelsea Holland as they brought the bow and arrows and targets. They set them up and let each class practice hitting the.
Students also enjoyed picnic lunch of grilled hot dogs and all the fixings. The students had a great time after lunch as they got to play on the wonderful playground.
