On the morning of Saturday, December  2, a vehicle struck two utility poles and a mailbox before coming to a complete stop and the driver is being served with several charges.

Derek W. Sharp, 24, of Smithville, TN, was driving east on U.S. Highway 70 in a 2004 Toyota Tundra in the Baxter area when his vehicle moved into the right hand lane. After crossing the line, the vehicle struck a utility pole, a mailbox and then another utility pole.  After striking the second utility pole, Sharp’s vehicle came to a stop but the utility pole, like the first, was also broken.

Sharp had one passenger with him at the time of the crash. The passenger has not been identified according to the report but was sent to the hospital due to injuries. Sharp was charged with several charges including first offense DUI, violation of implied consent law, failure to exercise due care and driving on a revoked license.

All involved were wearing their seatbelts.
