Attempt to create false report leads to shooting – Suspect arrested

Cookeville, TN – On January 19, 2018 at approximately 10:27 AM, officers responded to 1790 Lee Avenue to investigate a complaint of gunshots being fired during a residential burglary attempt.

When officers arrived, they were able to locate and detain a suspect that had been shot in the arm. Detectives conducted an investigation and learned that Drew William Rigby had falsely reported a residential burglary in an effort to conceal a missing marijuana shipment from his supplier. During Mr. Rigby’s effort to create the false report, he accidentally shot his accomplice in the arm. The victim suffered a non-life- threatening injury and was treated at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

Drew William Rigby was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and filing a false report. His bond was set at $60,000.
