Fit Frenzy The Perfect Start to a Fitness Routine

Fit Frenzy the perfect start to a fitness routine

COOKEVILLE – It’s a simple way to sample up to 20 fitness classes all in one morning.

And it’s free.

Fit Frenzy, offered by the City of Cookeville Department of Leisure Services, will be held Jan. 20 from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Cane Creek Recreation Center.

“We put this event together so people can try a variety of our classes in one stop,” Jen Webb, Leisure Services special programs coordinator, said. “That way, they’re set up for the rest of the year on classes that not only fit their schedule but their lifestyle and interest.”

The morning’s classes are as follows:

  • 9 a.m. – Zumba, Sunrise Circuit, Bend and Beginner Yoga
  • 9:30 a.m. – Step, Flex, PiYo and Slow Flow
  • 10 a.m. – STAC (Strength Training and Conditioning), Barre, Dance2Fit and Mixed Yoga
  • 10:30 a.m. – Power Hour, Spin 30, Zumba and Yin Yoga
  • 11 a.m. – Zumba, Hustle and Muscle, Sunrise Circuit and Mindful Yoga

Class descriptions are available at www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls/fitness/fitclassinfo.

Door prizes will be given away in every class.

It’s a high-energy event, Webb said, that typically attracts around 200 participants.

“Everyone is so encouraging to each other,” she said. “It gives you a boost of motivation. They’re all excited about coming back for class the next week.”

Cara Sheets, Leisure Services recreation superintendent, said participation in the classes is encouraged, but attendees are also welcome to just watch and meet the instructors.

She also emphasized that starting a fitness routine is more than making a New Year’s resolution.

“It’s not just a resolution. It’s a comradery,” she said. “We’re here for the long haul – not just in January, February and March but for life.”

Sheets noted that some people come to Fit Frenzy to check out classes they’re familiar with but end up trying a new one they may never have considered.

“They find out they love it,” she said. “So it’s a great chance to find the workout that’s right for you.”

Perhaps it’s a yoga class. Webb pointed out that this year’s event includes five different yoga classes – Beginner Yoga, Slow flow, Mixed Yoga, Yin Yoga and Mindful Yoga.

She also emphasized a new class designed for early risers – Sunrise Circuit.

“It’s the first 6 a.m. class we’ve ever offered,” she said. “It’s for those people who like to work out before work.” (During Fit Frenzy, Sunrise Circuit will be offered at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.)

Also new to the fitness schedule is Barre.

“We do this class in our dance studios,” Webb said. “We do a lot of small movement exercises at the barre.”

While a new year is typically the time for making fitness resolutions, Sheets stressed that anyone wishing to work toward a healthier lifestyle can start any time. Cane Creek Recreation Center fitness classes are offered daily at 180 C C Camp Road. The monthly schedule is available at www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls/fitness.

Drop-in classes are $3, with no membership fee or contract required. The first class is free.

Fit Cards are available for $30, offering 11 classes for the price of 10. But during Fit Frenzy, a special buy-one-get-one-half-price rate will be offered.

“You can get 22 classes for $45,” Webb said.
