On January 24, 2018 at 4:00 PM, our department became aware of someone attempting to
collect money from citizens by calling them on the phone. The scammers are spoofing the
Cookeville Police Department’s phone number (931-526- 2125), calling victims, and identifying
themselves to be from the State Police Department. The callers are claiming that citizens owe
back taxes from government loans.
The Cookeville Police Department will never call anyone and demand money over the phone. All
financial transactions are conducted through the business office of the police department or city
court. Do not give anyone your personal information over the phone and disconnect the call. We
urge everyone to report this type activity to our department by calling 931-526- 2126.
