Cookeville Man Attempts To Attack Caretaker With Windshield Wiper

COOKEVILLE, TN, — Cookeville Police arrived on scene as subject attempted to harm his caretaker. As the officer approached, the subject allegedly began to focus his outrage on him.

According to the report filed by the Cookeville Police Department on Feb. 23, an officer was patrolling the area of West Jackson Street when a group in the parking lot of Cane Creek Apartments caught his attention.

Allegedly, Brandon Williams, 24, had ripped a windshield wiper from a nearby vehicle and was attempting to strike his caretaker.

According to the report, an officer tried to intervene in the altercation. As the officer began telling Williams to stop, Williams threw down the windshield wiper and charged the officer. Allegedly, Williams began to punching and kicking and using so much force that a $725 body camera was broken.

The officer was able to get Williams on the ground, according to the report, but Williams began to fight back. Verbal commands were allegedly ignored by Williams and he had to be tazed to be put in handcuffs.

Williams was taken to the Putnam County Justice Center where he remains in custody. Williams has been charged, according to the report,  with Assault, Resisting Arrest, two counts of Vandalism and Aggravated Assault. The total bond is set at $10,000.
