MONTEREY, T.N., — A number of adults and juveniles were caught entering a building after knowing that the premises was off limits, according to police.
On Saturday, March 24 a silent alarm was triggered at the Uffelman Elementary School/ Monterey High School . Dispatch for the Monterey Police Department sent out an officer to the location where he could allegedly hear a disruption inside the building.
The officer called for backup but still continued to hear a commotion coming from inside the building. The officer decided to begin clearing the building as backup arrived. As the officer entered the building, he allegedly could hear distinct voices coming from the gym. The officer reportedly entered the gym and found four adults and five juveniles.
An alleged excuse was given by one of the people in the group that they were allowed to be in the building to play basketball. Officials say that the individuals were aware that they were not allowed to be in the area.
The four adults: May Lewis, 43, Alexander Puckett, 18, Michael Puckett, 18, and Elijah Ledbetter, 19, were charged with criminal trespassing.
This is an ongoing investigation.
