COOKEVILLE – “War” is brewing at the Cookeville History Museum.

A new exhibit, “Cookeville’s Great War,” opens Oct. 6 with a reception from 1-3 p.m. Admission is free.

“The focus of the exhibit is what Cookeville was like 100 years ago during World War I,” Beth Thompson, Cookeville museums manager, said. “There was so much happening at the turn of the 20th Century, from the beginning of the railroad to exciting new projects in building and commerce.”

The exhibit will feature fashions of the time, prominent families, local businesses, household items, historic photos and more.

Thompson said the World War I era was a time of progress and innovation, both industrially and socially.

“Public school systems were being formed, and women were fighting for the right to vote,” she said. “The time of the First World War was a very interesting era that is sometimes overshadowed by the Civil War and World War II, and we all stand to learn a lot from it.”

“Cookeville’s Great War” continues through Nov. 3.

The museum, located at 40 E. Broad St., is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, call 931-520-5455.Cookeville
