Bring Your Holiday Visitors to Cordell Hull Birthplace State Historic Park!

If you’re looking for a unique outing to entertain guests or keep the grandkids occupied over the holidays, we’ve got a great idea. The holidays are a wonderful time of year to visit any Tennessee State Park and Cordell Hull Birthplace is no exception.  We’ve got our usual attractions—a light 2.5 mile loop hike to Bunkum Cave, a self-guided tour of the Cordell Hull Museum and Farmstead, and our weekend kids programs. But we’ve also got some additional unique experiences planned for the season:

 

November 23rd @ 1pm – Gobble Wobble

Enjoy a hike on the day after Thanksgiving. We’ll repent of our mutual holiday gluttony, work off calories, and enjoy learning a few things along the way. Bring the whole family.

 

November 23rd @ 3pm – A Gentle Yoga Class with Norma

Work off holiday stress with a series of restorative poses.  Cost is $5 per person. Bring comfy clothes, a bottle of water, and a yoga mat. Class size is limited, so be sure to register soon.

 

November  30th @ 10am – Appalachian Test Kitchen: Leather Britches & Hoe Cakes

Join us as we cook over the open hearth. This edition of the Test Kitchen we’ll make a delicious dish of Leather Britches and a classic Hoe Cake. Join us at 10am to observe and participate in the cooking, or come at Noon to eat. Cost is $5 per person.

 

December 8th @ 11am – Curing Bacon

Learn to cure bacon and take home a pound! For $20 participants will learn the traditional art of curing bacon hands-on and take home a full pound. Observers are welcome for $5 each. The class is taught by Tennessee State Parks Regional Interpreter Steve Smith.

 

December 14th @ 10am – Appalachian Test Kitchen: Pies & Sides 

Join us as we cook over the open hearth. This edition of the Test Kitchen we’ll make a traditional mince pie, along with a few classic sides and a dessert. . Join us at 10am to observe and participate in the cooking, or come at Noon to eat. Cost is $5 per person.

 

December 15th All Day – A Forgotten Christmas

Join us as we celebrate forgotten traditions of Christmases past. Stop by anytime during the day and enjoy holiday-themed living history programs in the log cabins, including traditional refreshments. We’ll even go out with a traditional BANG with a black-powder rifle demonstration.

 

For $2 per person, join us for a traditional dance or watch and enjoy traditional Upper Cumberland Fiddling by Tater Carruthers. For $15, join us for a traditional Christmas dinner (dance admission is also included). Space is limited, so register for the dinner and dance online at tnstateparks.com.
