Christmas in the Park-carousel rides begin today

Christmas in the Park activities underway at Dogwood Park

 

COOKEVILLE – Christmas in the Park continues at Dogwood Park, and the next several days will be filled with new activities as well as returning favorites.

Those activities – all of which are free – include carousel rides, horse-drawn carriage rides, Santa House visits, Christmas movies and a holiday concert.

“We’re excited about these events,” Cookeville Mayor Ricky Shelton said. “We know they will be neat experiences for families and friends.”

The daily schedule is as follows:

 Thursday, Dec. 13

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 14

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.
  • Carriage rides: 6-9 p.m.
  • Santa House: 4-7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 15

  • Christmas Carousel: 12-9 p.m.
  • Carriage rides: 4-7 p.m.
  • Santa House: 1-4 p.m.
  • Christmas movies: 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 16

  • Christmas Carousel: 12-9 p.m.
  • Santa House: 1-4 p.m.
  • Christmas Concert: 2-4 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 17

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.
  • Santa House: 4-7 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 18-Thursday, Dec. 20

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 21

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.
  • Santa House: 4-7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 22

  • Christmas Carousel: 12-9 p.m.
  • Santa House: 1-4 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 23

Monday, Dec. 24-Wednesday, Dec. 26

  • Christmas Carousel: 3-9 p.m.

Carousel rides, carriage rides and Santa House will be accessible at the Cookeville History Museum, 40 E. Broad St. During activity hours, the museum parking lot will be open for handicap parking only, with limited spaces for vehicles with handicap parking tags.

 

Santa House visitors are encouraged to bring a camera for pictures with Santa.

 

The Christmas movies, “Polar Express” with Tom Hanks and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” with Jim Carrey, as well as the concert, will be at the Dogwood Performance Pavilion. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Hot chocolate, coffee and other concessions will be available any time the carousel is open through Dec. 23.

In addition to the above activities, a 15-minute Christmas tree light show synchronized to holiday music takes place nightly at the top of the hour from 5-9 p.m. through Jan. 4.
