On Friday, December 21, 2018 several callers nationwide have contacted our department reporting they have received a call from our department’s phone number of 931-526-2125. The caller is claiming to be a grandchild who is incarcerated and in need of money to be released from jail. The caller may even know the actual name of the grandchild. It appears that our department’s number has been spoofed.
The Cookeville Police Department will never call anyone and demand money or ask for personal identifying information over the phone. All transactions are conducted through the business office of the police department or city court. Do not give anyone your personal information over the phone and disconnect the call. We urge everyone to report this type activity to our department by calling 931-526-2126.
