Man Dies In Custody of White Co. Deputies, TBI Investigates

WHITE COUNTY, TN — A man dies while in custody of White County deputies. TBI brought in for investigation.

According to reports, a rollover crash was reported Thursday,  Dec. 27th, in DeKalb County and that a passenger from the accident was found over the White County line.

Allegedly, when White County deputies arrived on scene, they approached the passenger who became combative and tried to assault deputies. According to reports, deputies deployed their tasers to stop the passenger who was later identified as Mauris Crespos, 34.

After Crespos was handcuffed and placed into a vehicle, deputies made the trip to the White County Jail. When the deputy driving Crespos arrived at the jail, Crespos was found unresponsive. An ambulance was called and Crespos was taken to White County Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The TBI was asked to step in by request of the 13th District Attorney General Bryant C. Dunaway.
