Man Arrested Following High Speed Chase Through Cookeville

COOKEVILLE, TN — Police say they arrested a man following a high speed chase through Cookeville.

 

On January 19th, a Cookeville Police Officer responded to a call at the Cookeville Walmart in regards to shoplifting. The officer was given the information that the shoplifter was in a grey KIA SUV.

 

According to reports, the officer saw the vehicle matching the description and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Police say the driver, Mattison Whittaker, 21, did not stop after the officer engaged his emergency equipment. Whittaker is also accused of running several stop signs and red lights and was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed.

 

The officer eventually lost the driver in the Maple Avenue and 20th Street area.

 

Later in the evening, the KIA was found at a residence on Pippin Road.  Whittaker admitted that he was the one who fled from the officer.

 

Whittaker has been charged with Suspended or Revoked License, Reckless Driving, and Evading Arrest. Total bond is set at $2,500.
