NATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FOLLOWS THREE RURAL MEDICAL PRACTITIONERS WHO ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THEIR PATIENTS
Cookeville, TN — WCTE, in partnership with Indie Lens Pop-Up, presented by ITVS’ Independent Lens, will present The Providers. The film follows three healthcare professionals in northern New Mexico at El Centro, a group of safety-net clinics that offer care to anyone who walks through the doors. Set against the backdrop of the physician shortage and opioid epidemic in rural America, the film shows the transformative power of providers’ relationships with marginalized patients. The film is directed by Laura Green and Anna Moot-Levin, both the children of doctors.

“Residents in the Upper Cumberland often encounter barriers to healthcare that limit their ability to obtain the care they need,” said Brent Clark, WCTE Director of Content & Digital Media, “For residents in the Upper Cumberland to have sufficient access to necessary and appropriate healthcare, services must be available, easily accessible, and obtainable in a timely manner.”
WCTE’s Town Hall is one of several community events hosted by public media stations across the country and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The national organization StoryCorps will visit Cookeville to record and preserve community conversations on rural healthcare. Additional information will be available at the screening.
