Putnam County And CHS Welcomes New Principal

New Principal at Cookeville High School
Cookeville, TN – April 25, 2019, 2:30 p.m.

Putnam County Director of Schools, Jerry Boyd, and members of the Putnam County School Board are excited to announce Mr. Max Petett as the next principal to lead Cookeville High School.

Mr. Petett is a career educator in Kentucky with thirty years of experience. Mr. Petett served fifteen years as a classroom teacher and coach before spending the last fifteen years in school administration as both an assistant principal and principal. He comes to Cookeville High School after serving as the principal at Kentucky’s Monroe County High School for six years. He was also previously principal at Monroe County Falcon Academy, an alternative learning center in Monroe County, KY.

During his tenure as principal at the Monroe County High School, the school achieved a 98% graduation rate from 2013-2018. Monroe County High School is in the top 10% of Kentucky’s schools for students achieving College and Career Ready status. USA Today recognized Monroe County High School as a Top Public School in the Nation between 2014-2017.

Prior to entering administration, Mr. Petett taught at Trinity High School, Warren Central High School, and Monroe County High School. Mr. Petett’s classroom experience includes teaching courses in Biology, Advanced Biology, AP Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and General Chemistry. Mr. Petett has served as a Head Varsity Coach in Football, Baseball, Track, and Tennis.

Upon being offered and accepting the position to lead Cookeville High School, Mr. Petett stated, “I am very honored and humbled to be named the next principal of Cookeville High School.  I would like to thank Mr. Boyd, the Putnam Co. Board of Education and the CHS hiring committee for providing me with this distinguished opportunity. CHS has a very rich tradition of excellence and is a flagship school in the Upper Cumberland area.  I look forward to partnering with the faculty and staff of CHS, as well as engaging with the students to continue to move this school forward. This is a wonderful opportunity and I am anxious to get started.”
