Putnam County Man Arrested After Police Say He Attempted To Set His Wife On Fire

On May 17th, authorities say they responded to a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife at a home in Putnam County.

According to the warrant, Darrin Burkeybile, 42, of Baxter, TN, began arguing with his wife and attempted to hit her while they were in the car. After the couple returned to their home, Mrs. Burkeybile reportedly tried to leave but investigators say her husband sprayed her with lighter fluid and then attempted to set her on fire.

Mrs. Burkeybile was able to leave the home without any injuries but returned a short time later, according to the warrant.  Upon her return, Burkeybile reportedly took her to the car and told her she was going to die, according to the warrant. Authorities say as she tried to get out of the vehicle, Burkeybile grabbed his wife by the hair and began hitting her. He is then accused of grabbing her purse strap and wrapping it around her throat; pulling until the strap broke, according to the warrant.

Burkeybile then, allegedly, took his wife back into the home and would not let her leave by taking her car keys.

Deputies say did notice injuries on the victim that corroborated her story.

Darrin Burkeybile has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping. Total bond has been set at $45,000.
