Baxter Fire and Putnam County Fire Departments Battle Two Fires In One Day

BAXTER, TN — Thanks to the combined efforts of both the Baxter Fire Department and the PCFD, two potentially dangerous fires were contained quickly and without injuries.

On Monday, August 12, Baxter Fire Department responded to a call on Willow Street and discovered a Pick-up truck and RV already engulfed in flames. Accompanied by the PCFD, the flames were quickly extinguished. Significant damage was suffered by the vehicles but the nearby house and garage were able to be saved with minor damage to the property. According to the reports, there were no injuries on the scene. The scene is still under investigation as to what started the fires.

Later on Monday in the afternoon, both departments were again dispatched to a structure fire on Derryberry Road. Again flames were extinguished quickly and no injuries were reported.

“The response to these two fires within hours shows the dedication and commitment our firefighters have to help protect our community,” said Matt White, Chief of the Baxter Fire Department. “This is a reminder that fire can occur at any time and everyone should have working smoke alarms and practice fire safety.”
