Injury Occurs At Cummins Falls Days After Reopening

JACKSON COUNTY, TN — Jackson County Emergency crews rushed to Cummins Falls after an individual falls 50 feet off of bluff. 

 

On Saturday, August 17, Cummins Falls State Park had another injury on their hands, just days after reopening the park to the public. The park was closed two months ago after the death of a two-year-old. 

 

According to the press release from the Jackson County EMS, a young male disregarding warnings from park rangers to not cross a safety fence. The youth went over the fence and fell 50 feet off of a bluff onto the jagged rocks below. The young man was airlifted to a nearby medical center due to his injuries. The extent of the patient’s injuries have yet to be released. 

 

The press release from the Jackson County EMS states: 

“Jackson County Tenn – At approximately 1:39 p.m. Jackson County EMS crews responded to Cummins Falls State Park for a medical patient below a bluff when a young male disregarded safety orders from on duty park rangers and jumped over wooden safety rails before falling 50 feet off a bluff and landed on jagged rocky terrain working on emergency crews. Crews immediately began working on the severely injured patient. The patient was flown from the scene by a medical helicopter to a level one trauma center due to his injuries. 

 

Jackson County EMA/EMS director, Kieth Bean, would like to remind everyone to please obey the safety measures that have been implemented at Cummins Falls. These measures that have been put in place with visitor and emergency crew safety in mind.”
