What to choose? Doctor, Custodian, Lab Tech, Radiology, Computer Tech, Therapist, Dietitian . . .
And the list goes on with many interesting jobs to think about. That’s what the eighth grade students at Prescott South Middle School recently got to experience.
Angel Lewis, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at CRMC along with Jeff Slagle, Putnam County Schools Career and Technical Education Coordinator worked together on developing the fair.
They held their first of several career fairs at PSMS. Each eighth grade class ,in the county, will have the opportunity to experience the fair. The students were able to see first hand and engage in hands-on experiments with some equipment that is needed for some of the jobs involved in the medical field. Students asked questions and watched as the presenters demonstrated. Then it was their turn to participate.
You ask, “Why encourage this age group to attend such a fair?” Next school year they will be choosing what path to take in their high school studies.
Another plus for this type of experience, not all the jobs require a college education. There are different levels of employment. Those that require no experience where you can just walk right into the position straight from high school or those that require a four to eight year degree.
With this information the students can begin thinking about their future!
