Upon arrival, the veterans were directed into the Media Center where they were served refreshments and reminisced with other veterans. Following they paraded down the UHS hallway into the gym as their theme song was played and took their seats. Posting of the Colors was done by the UHS JROTC followed by the “Pledge of Allegiance” led by UHS Student Body President, Alex Fields. “The Nation Anthem” was directed by Emily Phillips and sung by the UHS Chorus and music performed by the UHS Band of Gold directed by Jon Oliver.
Guest were welcomed and recognized by UHS Assistant Principal, Mr. Greg Wilson. Meaning of POW/MIA table was read by Adam Hedgecough, Beta Club President followed with the playing of “Taps” by Band Director Jon Oliver.
“Old Glory” was sung by soloists Molly Brewington, Reece Dewispelare and Linda Phillips; accompanied by Audrey Phillips . piano; Hershel Meadows and Ross King, guitar; Chaz Stiriz, drums; Braxton Wilhite, bass and Elliott Klein on violin.
Tennessee State Senator Paul Bailey, the guest speaker, explained the importance of Veteran’s Day.
