Breaking News Putnam County Schools Closed Feb. 6 & Feb. 7

Cookeville, T.N.   5:40 p.m.

SCHOOLS CLOSED: FEB. 6 & 7, 2020

ALL PUTNAM COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED TOMORROW — THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6 AND FRIDAY, FEBRUARY, 7, due to both widespread flooding throughout Putnam County and continuing elevated absenteeism. Forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate continuing heavy rains from 6 p.m. this evening through noon tomorrow. In the past 36 hours, we have measured almost 3” of rain in parts of Putnam County and we could get an additional 2 inches of rainfall before the system exits our area. Continued heavy rains will cause many roads to become impassable. We also continue to experience slightly elevated absenteeism due to sickness. We encourage families that experience symptoms of sickness to remain home. Our school cleaning services will also continue to clean and disinfect classroom and public access areas in our schools. TSSAA sanctioned high school athletics may continue at the discretion of principals and athletic directors but all other school activities will be canceled for the remainder of this week. Also, due to elevated absenteeism, SAC services will be closed for the remainder of this week. Our hope is that closing for the remainder of this week will give families the opportunity to get well and that students and teachers will be able to return to school next Monday ready to learn!
