School Status Update – Gov. Lee Recommends Schools be Closed Through the End of School Year

SCHOOL STATUS UPDATE – WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2020
Today Governor Lee recommended that school buildings remain closed through the end of the scheduled school year. The Putnam County School System will follow this recommendation. In Putnam County, we are fortunate to be able to offer our students continued learning opportunities through our PCSS Remote Learning Plan.

While our buildings will remain closed, remote learning will continue with our teachers interacting with students and continuing to provide opportunities for ongoing learning. Our plan is to continue this through Friday, May 15. During the week of May 18th – 22nd, we will arrange for students to return devices and mobile hotspots that were borrowed from school sites.

Expectations for students concerning learning opportunities and grading will vary depending on the students’ grade level and course assignments. Clear expectations for grades and new learning will be developed by grade-level supervisors and principals. Expectations will be communicated to students and families through individual teachers no later than Monday, April 20. Our intent will be to provide students opportunities to continue learning and receive feedback from teachers for their work while preparing them to move forward to the next grade level or course.

We will be gathering input and feedback from our Class of 2020 seniors and their parents via a survey. This survey will be sent to your PCSS student email address and the parent School Messenger email address we have on file. While senior class activities will need to be postponed, we do not intend to cancel any senior class activities such as graduation and prom.

School nutrition services will continue as scheduled through Wednesday, May 20. Information on the summer feeding program and locations will be provided before the end date of school. The anticipated launch date for summer feeding will be Monday, June 1, 2020.

Dates will be arranged by individual schools between now and May 22 for students to come to buildings to pick up any personal items in classrooms or lockers, as well as pick up pictures and yearbooks.

Report cards will be sent via email on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

We will share information on summer school programs for elementary, middle, and high school as soon as it is available.
