Fitness classes resuming – with modifications – at Cane Creek Recreation Center

COOKEVILLE – Fitness classes are resuming at Cane Creek Recreation Center, but a few things will be different.

Starting May 18, three classes per day will be offered Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. and will be limited to nine participants each. Participants are asked to pre-register one business day prior to class by calling 526-7393. Payments will be made over the phone using a credit or debit card.

“We are definitely respecting social distancing guidelines,” Jen Webb, Cookeville Leisure Services special programs coordinator, said. “By doing preregistration, we’re limiting your exposure to other people, so you won’t have to stop at the front counter and sign in. You can just go straight to the fitness room.”

Masks are not required, but they are recommended.

Class offerings for the next two weeks include PiYo, STAC (Strength Training and Conditioning), Club Cardio, Yoga, Fit 4 Life, Kick ’N Core, Power Hour, Latin Zumba, Cardio HIIT, Drillz, Bend and Chair Yoga. See the schedule and class descriptions at www.cookeville-tn.gov/ls/fitness.

“Not all of our classes will be available at their normal times, but we will try to get back to that as quickly as we can,” Webb said. “We’re just waiting to see what the recommendations are and taking this in small bites. We want to be respectful of people’s health and the rules, and we also want to provide some exercise for those of you who are ready to exercise.”

Participants are encouraged to change into their workout clothes before coming to the rec center.

Fitness equipment such as mats and weights will be sanitized between uses.

“We are so excited to see you guys,” Cara Sheets, Leisure Services recreation superintendent, said.
