PCSS Updates on Football Game and Covid 8/21/20

Opening Football Game – CHS v UHS

Press release

Cookeville, TN, Friday, August 21, 2020 —

Cookeville High School and Upperman High School are excited to be back to supporting and caring for our Putnam County children. Last night the student-athletes played a competitive game and were able to return to some normalcy. As a team, UHS administrators and CHS administrators worked together to be proactive in providing a safe and fun venue for the fans.

Signs stating the TSSAA guidelines to help the fans understand the precautions we all need to follow to help take care of our families and our neighbors in this environment were posted throughout the venue. Temperatures were checked as fans entered. Seating was taped off following the guidelines on social distancing. Announcements were made frequently during the game to encourage the fans to abide by the TSSAA guidelines regarding social distancing and masking.

Unfortunately, many fans did not feel it necessary to be personally responsible for helping provide themselves and others a safer environment. We hope in future games, fans will take more personal responsibility for following the TSSAA guidelines so that we can continue to allow them to attend the football games this season.

We will continue to improve on our operations to provide the safest venue possible for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans. We hope both the Upperman Bees and the Cookeville Cavaliers have safe and successful seasons. Go Cavs! Go Bees! We are #PCSS Strong.

PCSS Update, 8-21-2020

Press release

Cookeville, TN, Friday, August 21, 2020 —

We have just concluded our third week of the 2020-2021 school year. We are off to a great start! As of this date, there have been no clusters of COVID-19 in our schools or confirmed in-school spread to students or staff. We appreciate the cooperation of our students, staff, and visitors for continuing to wear masks, socially distance when possible, and following other COVID related protocols. We believe these measures are helping to contain the spread of the virus in our schools.

Corby King said, “I want to commend our teachers and administrators for their hard work as our families have made their choices of either remote or traditional learning. As of the deadline to choose that ended at 3:00 p.m. today, 2289 PCSS students have chosen remote learning or approximately 21% of our total enrollment. This is significantly more students in the remote setting than indicated by our initial survey in early July.”

PCSS is continuing to evaluate our procedures to improve the educational experience for both our remote learners and their teachers. Serving students in a remote setting requires a different skill set than that of teaching in a regular classroom setting. Please continue to be patient and communicate
with our teachers and staff. Continue to extend grace to all. Our students’ continued growth and success remain our top priority.

If your child is exposed by contact in the home or in the community or has a tested positive, you must follow these steps to initiate Quarantine Learning:

● Contact the school nurse to begin the referral process.
● After the student is referred to the Quarantine Learning team, you will be contacted by a member of that team for help in continuing your child’s coursework.

Please help us help you and your child by following this procedure.

We appreciate your continued support and patience as we continue refining how best to meet the needs of all of our students.
