Cumberland River Hospital Closes It’s Doors

An emergent and temporary closure of Cumberland River Hospital became effective Friday, August 7, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Due to unprecedented circumstances, shortage of staff, the coronavirus and unexpected non-reimbursements of provided services, they were forced to a reality of temporary closure and placing their license in an inactive state.

Currently the emergency department services are open, along with labs and imaging services. There are no patients being cared for in our facility at this time.

Unfortunately, a spokesperson for the hospital says they have not been able to secure any financial funding and/or grants from the state.

They also said they have had local EMS diverting a majority of transports to other facilities outside of Clay County which has also contributed to a significant loss of revenue opportunities as well.

At this time, the spokesperson says the hospital has no time frame as to when they can reopen.  Again this was an unexpected and swift turn of events, hopefully a temporary solution to the issues will be at hand. If there are any opportunities for the state to provide financial assistance, or other funding becomes available, the hospital says they would be willing to reassess their situation to stay open during this pandemic.
