Grant Slatten Shatters Two White County Records

White County High School senior basketball star Grant Slatten shattered two school records on Monday night in a 105-82 win over Cumberland County.

Slatten passed WCHS legend Brent Jolly to become the leading scorer in school history, and also broke his own school record for points in a game, as he tallied 59 points for the Warriors.

“The team was working amazing,” said Slatten. “They were trying to get me the ball down low. They were hitting me on cuts. They were getting it to me when I was open in transition. This one goes to the team. They did a great job tonight.”

It was expected that Slatten would break Jolly’s record, as he needed just 17 points entering the game. The University of Mississippi signee accomplished it in the first quarter, and then never slowed down as he continued to add his name to the record books.

Slatten credited his teammates for getting him the ball in good spots.

“The team was just getting me the basketball in good spots,” said Slatten. “Obviously, I was trying to start off hot to get us out and going. It worked really well tonight. We scored 103 which is the most we scored all year. Our team played phenomenal tonight.”

The performance was necessary for the Warriors, as the Jets red-hot shooting put Sparta down 49-47 at halftime. Slatten’s 26 second-half points were enough to put the Jets away as the Warriors moved to 9-2 on the season.
