PCSO Apprehends Runaway UHAUL Subjects

On March 9th, 2021 the Putnam County Sheriff’s office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious U-Haul truck which was backed in at the Dollar General Store located at 6735 Highway.

While PCSO deputies tried to identify the subjects, the male driver, identified as Matthew Francis Callaghan, sped off and rammed into two patrol vehicles on the scene. Both the driver and the passenger, Amanda Lynn Cobb, fled on foot after exiting the vehicle in front of the store.  An extensive track was completed by using a drone and the help of the TN Highway Patrol.  Despite the damage to the vehicles, no deputies were harmed.

On Sunday, March 21, PCSO deputies responded to 6630 Smithville Highway after discovering both subjects from Friday were there.  Upon arrival, two citizens had the subjects detained.  One of the citizens stated the two subjects had attempted to carjack him and threatened to stab him.

The subjects were taken into custody without incident.

Matthew Francis Callaghan: Age 35, was charged with Vandalism, Carjacking, Possession of Meth, Reckless Endangerment, Aggravated Assaut, Evading Arrest, Criminal Impersonation and Felony Fugitive from Justice (Kentucky).  His total bond was set at $100,900.

Amanda Lynn Cobb: Age 34, was charged with Criminal Impersonation, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Meth, Evading Arrest, Carjacking and Felony Fugitive from Justice (Kentucky). Her total bond was set at $54,700.
