Senior Upperman guard Reagan Hurst was named 2021 Class AA Miss Basketball on Saturday at the Murphy Center in Murfreesboro.

The Miss Basketball award is given to the top girls’ basketball player in the state in their respective classification.

“It feels pretty good,” said Hurst. “We still wish we were out there on the floor getting a gold ball, but this helps a little bit.”

Hurst, who is known for her versatile ability to shoot, handle the ball, drive and finish at the rim, propelled her Lady Bees to a 29-2 record and a District 8/AA regular season and tournament championship.

Hurst said she enjoyed her senior year and getting to play with her teammates.

“It was awesome,” said Hurst. “Just being out there to play with my team again and coaches. It was a ride.”

Hurst will leave Upperman with an impressive resume. She helped the Lady Bees win a state championship, earned district titles, scored over 2,000 points and took two trips to the state tournament.

Despite all the accomplishments on the court, Hurst said she will remember the friendships she has made the most.

“Friendships, sisterhoods and relationships I’ve made at Upperman,” said Hurst. “And that state championship just tops it all off. It was a great four years. I couldn’t ask for anything better.”

Hurst will continue to play basketball in the Upper Cumberland for the next four years. She has signed to play at Tennessee Tech University.

“I’m super excited,” said Hurst. “I can’t wait to get over there with the team. I feel like we’re going to do some big things.”
