Officials Capture Escaped Zebra In Cookeville

From press release:

Cookeville, TN – At approximately 4:06 AM on May 7, 2021, officers responded to West Cemetery Road near Bunker Hill Road in reference to a zebra that had escaped from Triple W Livestock Auction at 1050 West Cemetery Road.

Officers of the Cookeville Police Department and deputies from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office assisted Triple W employees trying to capture the agitated animal.  Even though the zebra ran onto Highway 111, the lack of traffic at that time of day allowed officers to attempt multiple methods of regaining control of the animal in an effort to minimize injury to the zebra, the motoring public, and everyone on scene.

At some point, two officers of the Cookeville Police Department apparently made unsuccessful attempts to deploy issued TASER devices to redirect or capture the animal.  Regardless, the zebra was cornered and directed onto a transport trailer around 7:15 AM this date.

At the time of this announcement, we are happy to report that no injuries or property damage were suffered by the animal or anyone on scene during this call for service.  If anyone has relevant information concerning this incident, please call the dispatch center of the Cookeville Police Department at 931-526-2125.
