Putnam County EMS Offers First Of Its Kind EMT-Basic Class

From press release:

PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN – Putnam County EMS is now the first ambulance service in the Upper Cumberland Region to offer an in-house EMT-Basic class. By doing this, PCEMS becomes one of only fifteen ambulance services in the state of Tennessee to offer this entry-level pilot class; a distinction Chief Tommy Copeland considers a great honor. Applications are now being accepted for those interested in starting a career in the Emergency Medical Services field.

The EMT-Basic class is the first step in an EMS career. EMT-Basics provide the first step in care of the sick and injured by bandaging, splinting, oxygen delivery, driving an ambulance, and other basic but vital needs in patient care. Chief Copeland states “Putnam County EMS has always looked for ways to excel in prehospital medical care. This is one additional tool to help us achieve that goal.”

Traditionally, the EMT-Basic class was only available at colleges, but due to changes in Tennessee law, this class can now be taught at state-approved ambulance services. Training Major Billy Price, who is lead instructor for the class, said “Our goal is to provide a top-notch educational experience for the students, as well as to improve staffing for EMS in the Upper Cumberland region.”

Tiered pricing is offered, with availability and contract with Putnam EMS. Classes will be held in the Education Room at Putnam EMS. The start of the course begins on June 21st, and runs through October 5th. The deadline to register is June 1st, 2021.
