Capshaw Elementary Announces New Principal
PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN.- The Putnam County School System is pleased to
announce Renee Cantrell as the new principal at Capshaw Elementary School.
Dr. Diana Wood has served as principal of Capshaw Elementary the last two years and
will be starting a new journey as the new Pre-K- 4 Grade Instructional Supervisor for the
Putnam County School System August 1, 2021 at Central Office. Mrs. Cantrell brings 22
years of elementary educational experience to Capshaw and has served the last two
year as assistant principal at Park View Elementary School. Before her time as an
assistant principal, she served as a Kindergarten, first grade and third grade teacher at
Park View Elementary.
“This is an exciting time in our school district and we are delighted to welcome Mrs.
Cantrell into the role of principal at Capshaw Elementary,” said Corby King, Director of
Putnam County Schools. “Mrs. Cantrell brings a wealth of experience and a strong
background in elementary education to the table and has done a phenomenal job at
Park View Elementary. We know she will continue that great work and leadership at
Capshaw.”
Mrs. Cantrell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education at
Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, Tenn. She continued her journey in
education at Tennessee Tech and earned her masters degree in Instructional
Leadership.
“I have always loved kids and helping people. It is why I entered into education,” said
Cantrell. “ I am excited for this new adventure as principal at Capshaw. I look forward to
meeting the students and families. As I step into this new role, I hope to continue what
Dr. Wright and Dr. Wood have started and continue to grow the school. I knew when I
began my career as a teacher that I wanted to impact the lives of students and I will get
to continue that desire in my role as principal.”

Renee is married to David Cantrell and has two children Carley and Carter Cantrell and
a dog named Tessa.
