The Lady Cavs defeated LaVergne on Thursday 2-0 in soccer action.

The Lady Cavs had a slow start in the first five minutes, but then dominated the first half.

“This is one of the only teams we have already played in the district, so we kind of had an idea of what we were going against,” said CHS head coach Lauren Metts. “They’re a really strong and physical team and I feel like a lot of our girls stepped up to the challenge.”

Cookeville scored both of their goals in the first half. The first goal was scored by junior Olivia Hudson with 22 minutes left in the first half. Junior Ava Robbins scored the last goal of the night for the Lady Cavs to make the final 2-0.

The Lady Cavs will travel to Wilson Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. The Lady Cavs were supposed to play them Tuesday night, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

“This was a great game to reflect on ourselves and see what we need to work on,” said Metts. “I think what we need to work on is connecting. Our back line and our defensive half does a great job at winning the ball, so we need to work at getting it from them and keep moving it up the field.”
