UHS Earns Senior-Night Victory Over Cumberland County

It was a successful senior night for the Upperman Lady Bees, as they took down Cumberland County by a final score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-21).

The second set proved to be Upperman’s most complete set of the evening, as they took control early on in the frame and never let up in a 15-point set win, something that head coach Barbie Cook was pleased with.

“They told me in the first set that they were in another world,” Cook said. “That second set, they were more together. They were ready to play, and they brought their game back.”

A 3-0 win is a good win late in the season, but Cook was also quick to point out that there were many things for them to clean up with the postseason looming around the corner.

“We won, but we could’ve done better,” Cook said. “With other games coming up, along with districts, we need to work on some other things in order to get our mindset where we need to be. I’m proud of them for winning, but we’ve got some stuff to focus on.”

Senior night presented them with an opportunity to honor their five seniors in Allie Jennings, Courtney Clouse, Emma Conradi, Carmela Navarro and Jaycee Sweeney. She’s only been their coach for a season, but Cook says she was thankful for the time she got with them.

“It was an honor to get to experience that with them,” Cook said. “Watching them move on, it’s nice to hear what they have to say and to see what the future holds for them.”
